Levent Artok

Title: Metal-Mediated Coupling of Alkenyl Epoxide Systems: Access to Functionalized Allyl and Homoallyl Alcohols.

İzmir Institute of Technology

Prof. Levent Artok received his B.Sc. (1986), M.Sc. (1988), and Ph.D. (1993) degrees in Chemistry from Çukurova University, where he conducted research on coal liquefaction and the hydrogenolysis of diaryl ethers under the supervision of Prof. Oktay Erbatur. Between 1990 and 1991, he was a visiting researcher in the group of Prof. H. H. Schobert at the Fuel Science Program of The Pennsylvania State University.

He began his academic career at Çukurova University as an Assistant Professor in 1993 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1996. From 1997 to 1998, he worked as a JSPS Fellow in the Department of Applied Chemistry at Osaka University, collaborating with Prof. Masakatsu Nomura on the structural elucidation of coal- and petroleum-derived asphaltenes.

In 1999, Prof. Artok joined Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH), where he shifted his research focus from fuel chemistry to transition metal-catalyzed organic transformations. He was appointed Professor of Chemistry in 2001. He has carried out collaborative research as a visiting scientist in the laboratories of Prof. Norbert Krause.

Prof. Artok received the TÜBİTAK Young Scientist Award in 2003. His current research centers on the development of novel transition metal-catalyzed coupling reactions with applications in organic synthesis.
