Title : Design of New Cyclization and Cycloaddition Reactions for the Construction of Carbo- and Heterocyclic Scaffolds

Bilkent University/Department of Chemistry

Yunus Emre Türkmen graduated from the Chemistry Department of Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2005 with a degree in the minor program in Biology. Afterwards, he completed his MSc studies under the supervision of Prof. Cihangir Tanyeli at METU. He received his PhD degree from the University of Chicago in 2012, where he worked on a a variety of projects on total synthesis, hydrogen bonding catalysis and silver-catalyzed reactions in the research group of Prof. Viresh Rawal. Thereafter, he worked as a postdoctoral research associate at Bristol University on natural product total synthesis in the group of Prof. Varinder Aggarwal FRS. Since 2015, he has been a faculty member at the Chemistry Department of Bilkent University. Among his research interests are development of template-directed photochemical cycloaddition reactions, development of new methodology for the construction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and heterocyclic chemistry. He has been a recipient of the BAGEP award in 2019, and TÜBA-GEBİP award in 2022.
